Apple released iOS 14.6 to the public this week, which contains new features including AirTag, Apple Card Family, and paid subscriptions in the Apple Podcasts app, among others. However, it appears that Apple has discreetly improved the Shortcuts app, which now runs tasks faster on iPhones and iPads running the latest version of iOS.

Recent Developments

Actions in the Shortcuts app run faster with iOS 14.6 and iOS 14.7 beta, according to several users on Twitter and Reddit. According to one of the reports, a 700-action shortcut used to take roughly 30 seconds to run on iOS 14.5, but now it only takes 13 seconds with iOS 14.6. Other customers claim that the speed increased marginally after the upgrade, but not significantly.

In testing conducted by 9to5Mac, it was discovered that both iOS 14.6 and iOS 14.7 beta include certain enhancements. However, as we predicted, when it comes to shortcuts with dozens or hundreds of operations, this becomes even more apparent.

A shortcut with 380 actions was used in one of our tests. The same tasks took 8 seconds on an iPhone running iOS 14.5.1, but only 4 seconds on an iPhone running iOS 14.6. The tests were carried out on an iPhone 12 small and an iPhone 12 Pro Max, both of which had the A14 Bionic processor.

Summing Up

The iOS 14.6 release notes make no mention of any enhancements to the Shortcuts app, but it’s fantastic to see that it’s gotten faster. Have you observed any of these changes on your device? Please let us know in the comments section below.

In other news, there seems to be a surge in the usage of utility apps such as contact cleaner apps. People are now heavily dependent on apps for meager tasks hence developers are finally acknowledging the rising trend and meeting the demand.
